Europe for Business shares good practices on innovation at Sector Dialogues event hosted by Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Brazil

Europe for Business’s Senior Research and Innovation Advisor, Leonardo Piccinetti, was invited by the Brazilian Minister of Science, Technology and Innovations, Marcos Pontes, to present at a high profile webinar: “Sharing good practices on Innovation: Understanding the European start-up ecosystems to promote entrepreneurship innovative in Brazil”.

The webinar focused on a recent consultancy funded by Sector Dialogues Brazil-European Union, in which Mr Piccinetti in collaboration with Dr. Eduardo Felipe Matias, examined the policy process issue in Brazil with a view to foreseeing ways of potential development. The aim of the consultancy was to analyze how European startup support policies and guidelines operate, and to provide recommendations for the proposal for the “Brazilian Startups and Innovative Entrepreneurship Legal Framework”, as well as to identify cooperation opportunities between European and Brazilian startups.

Following the initiation of the consultancy, the next step was the identification and deep analysis of two startup policies in the EU: Italy and Spain, focusing on culture, regulatory framework and knowledge creation to generate high level proposals concerning synergies and possible joint actions. The conclusions presented at the webinar summarised EU lessons for Mercosur as well as highlighting recommendations concerning bureaucracy to reduce costs and red tape;  issues surrounding inequality and implications for public governance.

Commenting on the event, which was also attended by representatives of the MCTI, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Union embassy in Brazil, Mr Piccinetti said: “EfB was delighted to be invited to present the results of its study on the environment for innovative companies. This is not only important for Brazil, which elaborates its own Legal Framework for Startups, but provides lessons learned and recommendations for startups in numerous other countries and economies. ”
