Europe for Business attended a recent online briefing session held on November 29, 2023, on the UK-SA Water Innovation Lead Customer Programme. The aim of the programme is the expedition of innovations essential for the development of new or enhanced water technologies whilst fostering collaborative partnerships between the UK and South Africa.
The outcome will assist in meeting the water security challenges in both countries, as well as contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6. South Africa’s Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) has pledged support of up to ZAR 5,000,000 for South African partners. Simultaneously, Innovate UK KTN demonstrates its commitment by offering financial support of up to GBP 500,000 for UK partners
During the briefing, South Africa’s Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) highlighted its Water and Sanitation Strategy, dedicated to ensuring water security. This includes supporting water technologies in mining and actively promoting digitisation with technologies like IoT, AI, and Machine Learning to revolutionise water management practices.
The agenda also delved into crucial aspects of water challenges, featuring Kara Cartwright from Innovate UK and Patrick Martel from Innovate Durban.
The latter part of the meeting showcased pitching opportunities for partner brokerage, featuring presentations by GeoTerra, Aquature, Hydrodrip and Mop Tech Industry
The event proved to be a valuable platform for fostering collaboration and addressing water challenges through innovative solutions, to better contribute to the sustainable development of water resources.
By incorporating these elements into its strategy, the Technology Innovation Agency demonstrates a forward-looking approach, leveraging innovation to address challenges and contribute to the sustainable development of water resources.
